Sylmar / San Fernando : Metrolink Station to Offer Child Care

Share

Officials are scheduled to break ground Tuesday on a $1-million child-care facility at the Sylmar-San Fernando Metrolink station.

The center, aimed at helping adults who use the rail system, will accommodate up to 70 children, from infants to age 5.

Slated to open in February, the single-story, Mission-style building will be constructed at the southeast end of the station. It will include 5,000 square feet of interior space, with several observation windows so that children can watch the passing trains.

The construction is being funded by state and local grants, including a donation from the city of San Fernando.

This is the first of two Metrolink child-care sites planned for the San Fernando Valley. The other is under construction in Chatsworth. Both facilities will be operated by the Children’s Discovery Center.
