Sheriff’s Department investigators seized 10 ounces of heroin worth about $25,000 and arrested three people here earlier this week, officials said Wednesday.

After a two-week investigation, narcotics officers arrested Mario Ayala Villegas, 38, and his wife, Maria Dolores Villegas, 30, both of Santa Ana, and Gregoro Gomez Echeverria, 41, of Anaheim, on suspicion of drug possession and drug possession for sale, Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson said.

All three were arrested Monday at the Villegas home in the 2000 block of West 17th Street.

The amount of “tar” heroin found represents about 2,600 individual doses, Wilkerson said.

Tar heroin, a sticky, dark substance, is the most common form of street heroin, he said.

The three suspects remain in Orange County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail for each.
