REDO REMIXX? The word on Club Remixx--known as “The Tunnel”--when it opened two years ago in Orange: Finally, a clean, wholesome place for teens. Now the city’s planning commission is ready to pull the plug. Too much beer and pot smoking in its parking lot, police say, and too much roughhousing inside--even some complaints about slam dancing. The commission holds a hearing on the closure issue Monday. Counters the owners’ attorney, Joshua Kaplan: “There is an unfortunate cultural lack of awareness on the part of the city as to what constitutes the next generation’s form of entertainment.”

NO-FLY ZONE: Southwest Airlines flew its new “California One” painted airliner on a promotional tour to major airports around the state this week--with a last-minute cancellation at John Wayne Airport. The airline found out it would not be able to bring in the airliner on short notice--unless it was willing to fly one fewer flight at the airport this year under the strict noise regulations.

ONE-WOMAN VIEW: For Tamiko Washington, the one-woman play “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl” is more than just a good part. Created at Irvine Valley College, where she’s a fine arts instructor, it’s based on the autobiography of former slave Harriet Ann Jacobs. . . . “She was a strong woman who believed inherently she had a right to be free,” Washington says. She has played the part for two years. In February, for Black History Month, performances will be expanded, thanks to a grant from Pacific Bell.

GUT CHECK: The local Consumers for Legal Reform is using the county library to spread the word about bad lawyers. It’s donating 27 copies, one for each branch, of the 22-minute “Legal Secrets: How to Hire a Lawyer.” . . . Says the legal reform group’s director, Barbara Swist: “It teaches you to trust your gut: Is this lawyer really listening to you?” Swist says the group made the donation after the library’s tight budget left no room for buying copies.
