“Mario lost, but he didn’t really lose,” Lira said. “It was a very disappointing decision. We thought [Mario] was going to get the decision. I’m not saying that the other kid didn’t land some punches, but Mario was the aggressor. He should have won.”

“I’ve very excited,” Quarterman said. “I’m real flattered. We’re going to have a lot of fun. It’s a real good team.”

Quarterman said he had no intention of leaving Bell-Jeff until the Burbank job became available.

“It’s a step up--a bigger school,” he said. “It has a larger pool of players. I have nothing negative to say about Bell-Jeff. But when an opportunity arises you have to hear what they have to say.”

Des Enfants coached at Reseda as a junior varsity coach and a varsity assistant from 1986-93. A long-time American Legion coach, Des Enfants in 1993 coached the Valley Rangers to a seventh-place finish in the semipro baseball National Baseball Assn. World Series.
