Police Suspect Gangs in Late-Night Shooting
A 30-year-old Santa Ana man was shot to death in an apparent gang-related slaying late Friday night, police said Saturday.
Officers responded to citizen calls of shots fired about 10:25 p.m. and found Alfred Ochoa lying on the sidewalk at 2400 S. Maple St. with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, said Santa Ana Police Sgt. George Kopitch.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that Ochoa was confronted by two suspected gang members, one of them armed with a handgun. After a brief verbal exchange, Ochoa was shot and the attackers fled in a compact car.
They were described only as Hispanic, between the ages of 18 and 25.
Kopitch said gang investigators have been assigned to the case.
