With the help of 3,200 donors in 35 states, the Foothills Land Conservancy fulfilled its dream and its promise to keep 4,600 acres of land in public hands and undeveloped.

The conservancy raised almost $1.4 million over the last 18 months to buy the tract on Chilhowee Mountain, just off the northwestern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The conservancy signed over 4,200 acres to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the remaining 392 acres to the U.S. Park Service for inclusion in the Great Smokies.
