SIMI VALLEY : Council Prepares for Vision 2020 Series

Share

The first steps in what will likely be a months-long process involving hundreds of residents in a discussion of the future of Simi Valley, will be considered at a City Council meeting tonight.

The council will look at scheduling the first community meetings on Vision 2020--a broad plan that will survey residents and outline the city’s needs over the next 25 years.

To begin the process, the city is sponsoring a essay-writing contest, and a contest for the best logo. Any Simi Valley student 18 or younger can participate. The council will select judges who will pick the best essay on Simi’s future. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Sept. 20.

Tonight, the council will discuss an agenda for the first workshop, a list of invitees and survey questions for the community.

Mayor Greg Stratton said the idea is to garner as much participation as possible.

“You know if people that we don’t end up inviting, for whatever reason, want to come they probably will be allowed to attend,” Stratton said.

The first meeting is expected in October and the city is hoping for more than 300 participants.
