BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Sele’s Stay in Pawtucket Extended
Boston Red Sox pitcher Aaron Sele, who was expected to rejoin the team early this week, will instead continue his injury rehabilitation at Triple-A Pawtucket.
Sele has been on the disabled list since May 24 because of tendinitis in his right shoulder.
In one appearance at Pawtucket, the 25-year-old right-hander allowed four earned runs, including three homers in 2 2/3 innings against Toledo. He was ejected after hitting a batter.

Jim Fregosi will return as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies next season.
Fregosi’s future was the subject of intense speculation after the Phillies plummeted from a 37-18 record and a five-game lead in the NL East June 25 to their present record of 54-53, 12 1/2 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves.
Radio talk shows in the city were calling for Fregosi’s dismissal, and Bill Giles, the managing general partner, said the talk helped speed up the process of extending Fregosi’s contract.
