PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AFC : Raiders’ Release Greg Robinson

A day after trying to trade him to the Green Bay Packers, the Oakland Raiders released running back Greg Robinson on Tuesday.

Robinson, who led the Raiders in rushing in 1993 before sustaining knee ligament damage, reported to the Packers, then failed their physical and came back to El Segundo.

The Raiders also placed center Don Mosebar on injured reserve. He is wearing a patch over his left eye after it was poked by Dallas’ Chad Hennings during a practice in Austin, Tex. Mosebar, 33, has had surgery twice and faces a third operation and an uncertain NFL future.

Other Raider cuts included offensive lineman Jon Melander, wide receivers Phillip Bobo and A.C. Caswell, quarterback Kevin Mason, kicker Joe Nedley, linebacker Howard Dinkins and defensive lineman Alberto White.

The Houston Oilers, given special permission by the league to carry three extra players because of an exhibition cancellation Saturday against San Diego, waived 12 players, including veteran wide receiver Gary Wellman, in trimming their roster to 63. The Chargers gained the same exemption because the Astrodome field was judged unplayable.

Denver Bronco defensive end Dan Williams has been arrested on domestic-violence charges stemming from a telephone dispute with a woman on Aug. 10.

The New York Jets have signed veteran linebacker Wilber Marshall, 33, to a free agent contract.

The New England Patriots released wide receiver Ray Crittenden, along with five other players. . . . Linebacker Percy Snow, the Chiefs’ first-round pick in 1990, was cut. . . . The Cincinnati Bengals placed top pick Ki-Jana Carter and veteran wide receiver Tim McGee on injured reserve, meaning they will be sidelined for the season. . . . Orlando Watters, a part-time starter at cornerback last season, was among 12 players cut by Seattle. . . . Linebacker Brian Gelzheiser, a sixth-round draft choice, and Brian Ratigan, who played 14 games at linebacker for the Colts last year, were among 11 players released by Indianapolis. . . . The Buffalo Bills released wide receiver Bucky Brooks after an unsuccessful trade attempt. . . . The Chargers reduced their roster to 63 by waiving third-round draft pick Preston Harrison and rookie tight end Maurice Harrell, and placing defensive end LeAndre Anderson (knee) on injured reserve.
