Reseda : Alcohol, Speed Blamed in Fatal Accident

One person was killed and four others were injured early Wednesday in a Reseda traffic accident that investigators suspect was caused by a deadly mix of alcohol and speed, authorities said.
Sean Hernandez, 19, of Reseda, died of massive chest injuries after the car he was riding in flipped over, hit another car and finally rammed into a curb at 2:50 a.m. near Vanalden Avenue and Archwood Street, Los Angeles police said.
The driver, Victor Paredes, 18, of Encino, was in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center with massive head injuries, police said. LAPD Valley Traffic Division spokeswoman Leona Thomas said Paredes will be arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter because officers allegedly smelled alcohol on his breath.
Skid marks and witnesses also indicated that Paredes may have been driving too fast when he hit a bump and lost control of the car.
Three other passengers, including a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old from Reseda, suffered cuts and bruises.
