Vacationers had to be highly motivated to reach the resort community of Laguna Beach in the 1880s.
The tiny town was not on El Camino Real, the only coastal route.
Visitors arrived on stagecoaches that ran three times a week during the summer through Laguna Canyon from the El Toro train stop.
