A man was found shot to death Tuesday inside a car parked on an exit ramp of the Simi Valley Freeway in Chatsworth, triggering a massive traffic jam for morning commuters, police said.

The man, John Langworthy, 28, of Simi Valley, was found dead about 3 a.m. inside a car parked on the De Soto Avenue off-ramp of the freeway, police said. A friend of Langworthy told police that he and Langworthy had been driving in the area of Parthenia Street and Vanalden Avenue in Northridge when three to four men fired on their vehicle, police said.

Langworthy was shot in the upper torso during the attack and the friend, whose name was not released, told police that he drove toward the freeway where he “hailed security units,” police said. No arrests had been made.
