Humidity Adds to Holiday Discomfort

Share

On the last holiday weekend of the summer, Valley residents didn’t need a weatherman to tell them it was hot, with high temperatures breaking the 100-degree mark yet again.

“Terribly hot conditions and the humidity is making it uncomfortable and light winds are not helping,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Rob Krohn on Sunday.

Tropical moisture was moving into Southern California from two sources, Krohn said: a low-pressure system off the coast of Oregon and Hurricane Henrietta, which formed off the coast of Mexico during the weekend. This could mean thunderstorms for mountain and desert areas but would likely have little effect on the San Fernando Valley.

“At least through the midweek, there will be no change in the weather conditions,” Krohn said.

The humidity reached higher levels than normal for the Valley on Sunday, hitting 33% in Burbank and 25% in Van Nuys. The norm for this time of year is about 20%.

Valley temperatures were expected to rise to between 101 and 106 degrees on Labor Day, with the most severe heat in the West Valley.
