Federal Workers Asked for Donations

Share

Ventura County’s 11,000 federal workers are being asked to contribute to the 1995-96 Combined Federal Campaign, which solicits donations on behalf of more than 1,500 charities and nonprofit organizations.

Over the six-week period beginning Sept. 18, federal workers will be asked to donate a specific amount of money or a small percentage of their salaries to any local or global charity.

“It’s beneficial because in years past federal employees were approached by the organizations themselves and solicited for donations,” said Marge Hays, one of the campaign’s coordinators.

“But there are so many organizations out there that are worthy of contributions,” she said. “Through the Combined Federal Campaign, all of those charitable organizations are listed in one booklet.”

Employees are encouraged to select any kind of charitable organization for a contribution-- groups that promote local activities or help people in less-developed countries, Hays said.

“Someone can give to the cause down the street or the cause around the globe,” she said. “We only ask that they give what they feel is appropriate.”

Last year’s campaign raised just under $775,000. But the goal this year is to raise even more.

A luncheon is scheduled Sept. 14 at The Point restaurant at the Point Mugu Navy base to kick off the campaign. For more information or to make a donation, call 989-8094.
