No Grand Auto Theft Charges for El Camino Football Players

Charges of grand auto theft were not brought against El Camino College football players Saladin McCullough and Treyvone Towns, according to Sgt. Lili Hadsell of the San Marino Police Department. McCullough and Towns, who were arrested more than a week ago in Pasadena while in possession of a stolen car, were held overnight in jail and released the next day, she said.

They were not arraigned, as police had previously said.

“We took the case to the [district attorney] but he rejected it,” Hadsell said. “The car was stolen, but the DA thought that their [McCullough and Towns] story was plausible enough for a jury to believe. . . . They said they got the keys from a girl who let them drive it. We don’t even know who the girl was.”

Hadsell said the car has been returned to its original owner in Glendale.
