Cincinnati Red owner Marge Schott is about $3 million behind in her payments to the city for home-game revenues, the city manager said.

John Shirey told the City Council that Schott is withholding the money until she gets a new stadium lease agreement.

Shirey sent Schott a letter last week emphasizing that the city needs the money to operate Riverfront Stadium.

“There is no legal basis for delay of these payments,” Shirey’s letter said. “These delinquencies are creating cash-flow problems, which may affect the city’s operation of the stadium very soon.”

Schott has been demanding a more favorable lease agreement for Riverfront Stadium, which Hamilton County owns and Cincinnati operates. She also wants taxpayers to build her a new baseball-only stadium downtown.

The Milwaukee Brewers added right-hander Ron Rightnowar to the 40-man roster, returning the former replacement player to the major leagues.

Rightnowar is 3-1 with a 6.28 ERA and one save in 25 appearances, all in relief, for the Brewers this season. He had been sent to triple-A New Orleans on Aug. 5.

The Brewers also moved outfielder Turner Ward from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. Ward has been sidelined by a right hamstring injury three times this season.
