St. John Knits Inc.: The Irvine women’s clothing and accessories designer and manufacturer reported that third-quarter profit increased 23% to $4.3 million, or 52 cents a share, from $3.5 million, or 43 cents a share, for the same period a year ago. Sales for the quarter ended July 30 gained 25% to $37 million from $29.7 million. For the first nine months of 1995, the company posted a 35% increase in profit, to $13.4 million, or $1.63 a share, from $9.9 million, or $1.20 a share, for the prior-year period. Sales rose 28% to $113.9 million from $89.2 million.
