He’s a little bit country, he’s a little bit Espanol. And at age 23, Rick Trevino is already well-known on the country music charts and in American tejano circles. His Spanish-language album “Dos Mundos” went gold in Spain, his spirited “Bobbie Ann Mason” and “Doctor Time” are country radio hits. The young Texan is expected to draw fans of both tejano and honky-tonk at his gig Saturday during the opening weekend of the Los Angeles County Fair. Trevino will join headliner Pam Tillis and opening act the Smokin’ Armadillos for a concert beginning at 7 p.m.--and which is included in fair admission. On Sunday, Bronco will headline a Latino concert.

There are a lot of new attractions at the fair this year, running Friday through Oct. 1, including a National Hot Rod Assn. exhibit with cars, displays and hands-on simulators in a dragster showcase honoring the 44th year. New rides include the Starship 2000, the Orbiter and a giant slide for kids.

Returning to the fair are Gale Webb’s team of in-line skaters, skateboarders and BMX racers, performing stunts four times a day. There are more than 20 home arts contests, from baking to wood carving, lots of livestock, and each day is topped off with fireworks at 10 p.m.
