Countywide : Watchdog Group Will Be Briefed on Recovery

Share

Jan Mittermeier, the county’s interim chief executive officer, is scheduled to discuss the bankruptcy recovery plan next week at the monthly meeting of the Committees of Correspondence, a citizens watchdog group.

Mittermeier’s talk comes as the county works with state legislators toward passage of several bills needed for the recovery effort to move forward.

The recovery plan seeks to bring the county out of bankruptcy by as early as next year by diverting tax funds, postponing payment of debt, and raising new revenue through out-of-county trash importation.

The county filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 6 after its investment pool suffered a $1.7-billion loss because of risky investments.

The pool contained money invested by local cities, schools, special districts and others.

The meeting will take place Thursday at Orange City Hall. It will run from 7 to 9 p.m.
