LIBERTY II: We all remember what happened...

LIBERTY II: We all remember what happened on the Fourth of July, but does Sept. 17 mean anything to you? That’s the day 208 years ago that the U.S. Constitution was signed at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Knott’s Berry Farm will have a two-day remembrance ceremony at its own Independence Hall next weekend. . . . Cal State Fullerton history professor Carmen Hardy will talk about the Constitution on Saturday, and on both days actor Gene Collins will perform as Patrick Henry, a leader in forming the Bill of Rights.

NEIGHBORLY EFFORT: Moving an office to Anaheim this year isn’t all that Universal Studios is doing to try to cash in on Disneyland’s power to draw tourists. The Hollywood studio has now peppered the bus stops directly across from Disneyland with its own ads. A couple of samples: “Where to Go After Seeing a Mouse--Back to the Future at Universal Studios.” And “After you go to Indiana [Disneyland’s Temple of Doom ride], come to Hollywood.”

NEW HUGS: Sexy, sultry, those were the parts that Hollywood sisters Audrey, left, and Judy Landers have played in TV and movies. Their new roles? Den mothers. . . . The Landers sisters are hosts--and creators--of a new public TV show (starting Monday on Huntington Beach’s Channel 50 at 2 p.m.) called “The Huggabug Club.” The club members are youngsters who talk about society’s problems. The Landers sisters will meet the staff Monday at the station.

GOOD DEAL: Car dealer Joe MacPherson got tired of hearing how public schools were hurt by the county bankruptcy. “Time to do something,” he said. . . . So from May 19 to Labor Day he gave $50 to the school of a buyer’s choosing each time a car was sold at his six showrooms. The result: $165,800 raised. “That’s no small chunk of money,” says Jacqueline Price, spokeswoman for the Capistrano Unified School District. Trustees will thank MacPherson at their meeting Monday for the district’s share, $18,500.
