* It was 77 degrees at noon in Los Angeles Sunday, 0% chance of precipitation and 0% chance of professional football.
* NFL teams combined to score 63 touchdowns Sunday, while at about the same time anglers were hauling in 3,089 mackerel on the Redondo Barge.
* During the third week of the season 11 years ago, rookie running back Kevin Nelson’s 13-yard touchdown run keyed the Los Angeles Express’ 10-0 victory over the USFL’s Oakland Invaders.
* Quarterback John Elway directed the 35th fourth-quarter game-saving drive of his career in the Denver Broncos’ 38-31 victory over the Washington Redskins. But he said this one was different. “I think it’s the first time since I started playing football that I’ve thrown a TD pass on the last play to win a game,” Elway said, “so this was extra special. It took me a second to realize what had just happened. I was stunned.”
