No bones about it:

Angeles-Rosedale Cemetery, graveyard to the historically elite, will stage some live entertainment Oct. 7 when the L.A. City Historical Society stages its annual tour of the grounds.

The cemetery at 1831 W. Washington Blvd. is the permanent home of such personages as explorer John C. Fremont, actress Hattie McDaniel (“Gone With the Wind”) and turn-of-the-century brothel queen Hattie Wilson. (That’s Hattie--not Heidi.)

Docents will be decked out in period costume from Imperial Russia this year to honor the presence of another inhabitant, Maria Rasputin. The daughter of Gregori Rasputin, adviser to Czar Nicholas II, she lived off Sunset Boulevard.

Which reminds us. Scientists who tested the DNA from bones found buried in Russia recently concluded that they were the remains of Nicholas and members of the royal family, assassinated in 1918 during the Bolshevik Revolution.

It should be noted, though, that these scientists never have been cross-examined by Simpson attorney Barry Scheck. We suspect that Scheck could force them to admit that the bones might be those of Genghis Khan and his family.

SUCCESSFUL ROAD PRODUCTION: When the Beverly Hills High football team arrived at Pasadena High for a game last Friday, the players were greeted by a marquee that said: “Bulldogs vs. 90210.”

As it turned out, it was Beverly that had Pasadena’s number. 90210 triumphed, 27-22. Over and out.

TAKE A ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIKE: Isn’t it bad enough that the Dodgers may finish second or worse to the Colorado Rockies in the National League West race? Must L.A. fans also endure those insipid Coors beer commercials where the patrons of a saloon join in a sing-along of “Rocky Mountain High”?

CALTACKY: The university may have been ranked as the seventh best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, but Caltech has a rather basic spelling problem in its newsletter, Marvin Mallon of Canoga Park noticed (see excerpt). Or is this really a mistake? After all, Caltech students have been known to alter the Rose Bowl scoreboard, not to mention the HOLLYWOOD sign. Perhaps “tecnology” was another student prank. (The same is true, by the way, of any mistakes you spot in Only in L.A.)

ANIMAL WORLD: Ex-Mafia muscleman Anthony (Tony the Animal) Fiato testified in the O.J. Simpson trial on Tuesday, so it’s too soon to tell how much of a celebrity he will become. But let’s not forget that he isn’t the first Animal to come along. Some predecessors:

* Eddie (the Animal) Lopez, a one-time heavyweight boxing contender from East L.A. who appeared in the 1994 documentary, “Everyday Echo Street: A Summer Diary.”

* Daryl Anderson, who portrayed Animal, the photographer, on TV’s “Lou Grant”

* The Animals singing group, whose hits included “We Gotta Get Out of This Place.” That recording is, of course, the theme song of the Simpson jurors.

miscelLAny:

IKEA’s new catalogue says, “To get this much free stuff in L.A., you usually have to sue somebody.” IKEA usually can be counted upon for pungent commentary. A couple of years ago, the chain said its prices were lower than the test scores of L.A. students.
