CAMARILLO : Railroad Work to Cause Detour
The 15,000 motorists who use Adolfo Road daily between Lewis and Flynn roads must find an alternate route for at least Tuesday and Wednesday.
Southern Pacific is tearing out its railroad tracks beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday and then reinstalling them to give drivers passing through the railroad crossing a smoother ride.
“The rails are loose [and] they need to be reset,” said Roc Pulido, assistant city traffic engineer. “We’ve had a lot of complaints from residents in the area about clanking of rails as cars go over.”
Work is expected to be completed Wednesday, although the railroad has the option of keeping the road closed until an undetermined time on Thursday if it encounters unanticipated problems, he said.
Amtrak, Metrolink and Southern Pacific train schedules are not expected to be affected.
A lengthy detour will be clearly marked to guide motorists around the heavily traveled railroad crossing.
Motorists heading southbound on Adolfo will have to take a three-mile detour along Lewis Road and Dawson Drive and then back onto East Mission Oaks Boulevard to connect back to Adolfo.
People heading to Adolfo Camarillo High School looking for a shorter route should consider heading north on Lewis Road and then making right turns on Upland Road, North Woodcreek Road and East Mission Oaks Boulevard, Pulido said.
