A retired engineer was stabbed Wednesday night and his home ransacked by four men, one of whom he knew, police said.

About 6 p.m., Itzhak Swhartz, 56, called police and said four people had barged into his unlocked home in the 20000 block of Seacoast Circle and ransacked it, said Sgt. J.B. Hume. Swhartz was stabbed in the right forearm with a fireplace poker.

Two of the men fled in a white Plymouth minivan and the other two attackers were found in Swhartz’s bathroom when police arrived.

Arrested were Freddi Gomez-Lopez, 25, of Santa Ana and Ismael Valdez, 23, of Orange. The men at large are Kamel Moghrabi, 36, a transient who apparently was an acquaintance of Swhartz and a fourth man described as a 23-year-old Latino, 5 feet, 4 inches tall and about 160 pounds, police said.

Gomez-Lopez and Valdez were arrested on suspicion of robbery. Police had not determined the loss at the house and the investigation is continuing, officials said.
