Winfield Won’t Be in Playoffs
Dave Winfield said he won’t be added to the Cleveland Indians’ playoff roster.
“I’m a little shocked and very disappointed,” said Winfield, who has more career hits than any active player. “I’m not here throwing darts or barbs or anything like that. Coming down the stretch, I haven’t had opportunities to perform or produce.”
Winfield has played with a sore left shoulder most of the season. Limited to occasional work as a designated hitter and a few pinch-hitting appearances, he has batted .193 with two homers and four RBIs in 45 games.
He said his next step would be surgery.
“I will have the corrective surgery and go from there,” he said. “I have no comment on what I plan to do after this personally or with my career.”
