New Social Studies, History Texts on View
Two new textbooks adopted by the state for history and social science classes are on display for public review in Camarillo.
“Ancient World 2000,” aimed at sixth-graders, and “A History of US” for grades five and eight are available for inspection indefinitely in the Education Services Center of the Ventura County superintendent of schools office at the Camarillo Airport.
The textbooks and supplemental materials were chosen from seven books offered by textbook publishers earlier this year, said Diane Brooks, a consultant for the state Department of Education.
The materials were reviewed in depth over a two-month period before being approved by the state Board of Education, Brooks said. They closely follow teaching guidelines for history and social sciences adopted by the state in 1988, she said.
