HUNTINGTON BEACH : Reward Out for Killers of Shop Owner

A $25,000 reward is being offered by the city of Lakewood for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killers of a Huntington Beach man.
Police said Gary Son, 51, was shot in the upper body about 10 p.m. Sept. 19 in an apparent robbery attempt at his liquor store in Lakewood.
After the shooting, two suspects wearing ski masks and gloves fled from 100 Proof Liquor at 5601 E. South Street, authorities said. Son died after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Son was popular and well-known in the neighborhood where he worked, said Don Waldie, Lakewood’s public information officer.
“The residents say he was well-liked, especially among the young people in the neighborhood,” he said.
He said the reward is the largest ever offered by that city.
Lakewood City Council members decided to offer the reward last week, optimistic that the extra incentive will help police nab the killers.
Anyone with information regarding the slaying is asked to call Lakewood police at (213) 890-5500.
