O.C. Man Confesses to Slaying in N. Calif., Authorities Say

A Garden Grove man persuaded his 21-year-old son to give himself up to Orange County sheriff’s officials and confess to a slaying in Northern California, authorities said Monday.

Wesley Allen Bird turned himself in to the police about 5 p.m. Friday, just two days after a double shooting in Petaluma in which a man was killed and a woman was seriously wounded. Bird, who lives in Petaluma, was accompanied by his father, whose identity police would not release.

Police said that Bird opened fire on Michelle Dalluhn, 26, and her boyfriend, David Harrington, 24, in their Petaluma home on Wednesday with a .22-caliber rifle. Both victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Harrington died at the scene.

Dalluhn, who has lost the sight in her right eye, is listed in stable condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. She identified Bird as her attacker.

Capt. Pat Parks of the Petaluma Police Department said no motive has been established for the shootings.

“The only thing we know is that this doesn’t look like a domestic violence situation,” he said.

Petaluma police searched another Petaluma house and seized a .22-caliber rifle that matches shell casings found at the scene, but would not say whether Bird lived in the house.

Bird will be transported to Sonoma County where he will be charged with murder and attempted murder, Parks said.
