South Bay : Airport Security Measures Tighter After Convictions
Officials at Los Angeles International Airport have heightened security measures in light of the convictions Sunday of 10 terrorists charged with conspiring to wage urban warfare in the United States.
Airport spokeswoman Diane Scully would not elaborate on the beefed-up precautions but said they were mostly behind the scenes.
“Passengers are not going to be able to see any difference between this week and last week,” she said.
Scully added that airport security had been increased in August, given the trial for the terrorists and other aspects of the “worldwide [political] climate.” She would not elaborate on those measures.
Travelers at LAX, Scully said, can help prevent possible delays due to the new measures by arriving at least an hour before flights, carrying identification and labeling all bags. She said passengers also may be subjected to spot identification checks and luggage searches depending on their carrier.
