SOUTH COUNTY : Christmas Card Sales to Aid Charity Groups

Share

Christmas greeting cards are being sold at two South County libraries to help 20 charitable groups, including the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia Research Foundation.

Known as Cards That Care, the annual program helps service organizations raise money through card sales.

The cards are on display at county libraries in San Juan Capistrano, 31441 El Camino Real, and Dana Point, 33841 Niguel Road. The cards can be ordered through Nov. 30 in San Juan Capistrano and through Oct. 31 in Dana Point.

Kay Hockema, a San Juan Capistrano resident who founded Cards That Care in 1992, said that nearly all the cards deal with critical health issues.

Among some of the nonprofit organizations represented are the American Heart Assn., Arthritis Foundation, American Diabetes Assn., Alzheimer’s Assn. and Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Because it takes a few weeks for the cards to be delivered, Hockema suggests ordering early, even if it feels odd buying Christmas cards a few months before the holiday season.
