Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr each scored two goals and Jagr added three assists Monday, but the Pittsburgh Penguins--outshot 46-26 by Colorado--had to settle for a 6-6 tie with the Avalanche.

Joe Sakic had two goals and two assists for Colorado.

The Penguins, who converted four of eight power plays, had a chance to win with a man advantage in overtime. But goalie Stephane Fiset came up with two big saves, the last on a close-in shot by Brian Smolinski with two minutes left.

Sakic’s second goal of the game gave Colorado a 6-5 lead late in the third period. Pittsburgh came back a little more than a minute later when Jagr intercepted a crossing pass and beat Fiset with 2:28 left.

Detroit 5, Vancouver 3--Dino Ciccarelli and Keith Primeau scored power-play goals in the second period to spark the Red Wings’ victory over the sluggish Canucks.

Playing their third game in four nights, the Red Wings also got goals from Steve Yzerman, Martin Lapointe and Vladimir Konstantinov.

The game was the first at GM Place, where 19,024 fans packed the downtown arena on Canada’s Thanksgiving Day.

Boston 5, Buffalo 3--Ray Bourque and Joe Mullen scored 70 seconds apart in the third period as the Bruins got their first victory at Boston’s new FleetCenter.

The Sabres took a 3-2 lead on Brian Holzinger’s goal 6:49 into the third period, but Holzinger was called for an interference penalty less than a minute later.

Thirty-seven seconds into the power play, the Bruins worked the puck around the perimeter to Bourque, who slapped it past Dominik Hasek to tie the game, 3-3.

A minute later, Mullen swiped a clearing pass and brought it over the blue line before putting it through Hasek’s legs.

“They’re a team you can’t ever let down on,” Buffalo defenseman Garry Galley said. “They’re a team that constantly works.”
