Rev ‘er up and help some needy children this Halloween.

Motorcyclists are invited to join a convoy carrying toys and donations on Oct. 29 to the Orangewood Children’s Home for abused and neglected youths.

The fifth annual Orangewood Toy Ride, co-sponsored by the Irvine Police Assn. and a local chapter of the Gold Wing Road Riders Assn., is open to all riders and expected to draw more than 400 motorcyclists, said Irvine Police Officer Dave Mihalik.

Participants are asked to bring a $2 donation and an unwrapped gift for the children, who range in age from infants to teen-agers.

“Every year we get a lot of toys, which is really nice,” Mihalik said. “But for the infants and teens, what they really need are shoes, clothes, hair dryers and makeup.”

The caravan will begin with a continental breakfast in Old Town Irvine and trail up the Santa Ana Freeway to the children’s home.
