Vladimir Konstantinov spent the summer thinking about his reticence to shoot last season.

His decision to change his game paid off Friday, when he scored two goals to help the Red Wings rout the Edmonton Oilers, 9-0.

“I’ve decided to shoot more this year, because when you shoot more, you might score more,” Konstantinov said.

Before the game, the Red Wings raised banners for their Central Division, Western Conference, President’s Trophy and Campbell Bowl titles. The sellout crowd at Joe Louis Arena cheered center Steve Yzerman, the subject of persistent trade rumors, but jeered Scotty Bowman, the Red Wings’ coach and general manager.

“When I heard the boos, the first thing I did was look in the stands to make sure my wife and daughter were clapping,” Bowman said. “The only thing that bothered me was when I looked on the ice, and the players were booing. At that point, I resigned. For about five seconds.”

Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood made 17 saves for the fourth shutout of his career.

Washington 3, Colorado 1--Keith Jones had a goal and an assist and the Capitals got strong performances from their special teams at Landover, Md.

Jones and Pat Peake scored power-play goals for the Capitals, who converted two of five advantages. Washington also killed seven of eight penalties.

Florida 6, Ottawa 2--Tom Fitzgerald and Stu Barnes each scored two goals in the Panthers’ third consecutive victory at Miami Arena.
