Northridge Man Assaulted, Robbed on Promenade

A man was hit over the head and robbed along the Ventura Promenade on Saturday night--the second such incident in two days--but police said they do not think the two crimes are related.

Jim Ishoo, 50, of Northridge was walking alone on the promenade near the pier at 10:40 p.m. when three men in their 20s came up from behind him and struck him over the head with an unknown object, Ventura police said.

When Ishoo fell to the ground, the suspects took his wallet and fled, police said. Ishoo received minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

Police have not found the suspects, but the investigation is continuing.

Another Ventura man was badly injured Friday night while walking along the promenade. Ronald James Ballantyne, 51, remained in critical condition at the Ventura County Medical Center on Sunday, a nursing supervisor said.

“The suspects in [Saturday’s] crime do not appear to be the same as the suspects from the robbery/attempted murder that occurred on Friday night,” police said in a statement.
