Rail Car Builder to Close Bay Area Site: American Passenger Rail Car Co. (Amerail), a transit car producer spun off from Morrison Knudsen Corp., announced plans to close its Pittsburg, Calif., plant and lay off most of its 250 workers. Chicago-based Amerail said the plant will close either late this year or early in 1996 after it completes existing contracts. The company, which employs 1,800 overall, said it will focus on the market for remanufacturing existing cars, a market that is concentrated in the East.
