Joseph Paul D’Amico; Retired Schoolteacher

Joseph Paul D’Amico, a retired schoolteacher from the Port Hueneme School District, died Sunday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura after a short illness. He was 66.

D’Amico, who was born Nov. 10, 1928, in New London, Conn., moved to Ventura County 46 years ago from Connecticut.

The Ventura resident had been a teacher for the Port Hueneme School District for 21 years and held a master’s degree in education. D’Amico was a member of Ventura Elks Lodge #1430.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda; his son, Paul D’Amico of Ventura; his daughter, Jennifer Tissler of Ventura; his brothers, Michael D’Amico of New London, Conn., and John D’Amico of Waterford, Conn.; his sisters, Mary Balda and Emelia Powers, both of New London, Conn., and Carmela Carver of Santa Cruz; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the San Buenaventura Mission in Ventura. Burial will follow in Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assn.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
