CAMERA-SHY? Did you happen to see Rep. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton) scurrying away from TV reporter Chris Wallace on ABC’s “Prime Time” Thursday? Wallace wanted to know why a Royce staff member was on a golf and dining junket paid for by the banking industry. Other congressmen--on the banking committee, like Royce--were avoiding Wallace too. . . . Responds Royce spokesman John Doherty: “Ed didn’t know what Wallace was talking about. He didn’t find out until later we even had a staff member there. Our guy didn’t golf or horseback-ride. He just went to the work sessions.”

ON THE LAM: TV’s “Unsolved Mysteries” kicks off its eighth season tonight (Channel 4, at 8) with an Orange County-related case: Where is Tony Castro? Castro, 28, is wanted for murder in Sacramento. But he was recently spotted here in Orange County, where he has family. . . . Clues: He’s missing part of his right index finger and has gold-capped front teeth. He’s also a pretty good swimmer--he escaped police by way of the Sacramento River.

BUTTONS SHINED: How many World War II veterans can still fit into their uniform? How many even have their uniform after 50 years? . . . Mary Ann Dreher of San Clemente, a WWII Air Force training pilot, not only has preserved hers, she’ll wear it Saturday night at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach, where she’ll be honored at a “Hollywood Canteen USO” gala. It’s a fund-raiser for Laguna Beach’s Art Institute of Southern California. . . . “In those days, we all had to do our part,” says Dreher. “I’m proud I got to serve.”

CITY SELLING: If your family room could use an old city parking meter, a Pacific Coast Highway sign or a surfboard-shaped clock, you’re in luck. Huntington Beach’s local cable channel--HBTV-3--will debut its “Surf City Shopping” program today at 5 p.m. . . . Says Richard Barnard, who produces the home shopping program: “We’re not just selling merchandise. We’re selling Surf City.” . . . The ultimate goal: to distribute it nationally.
