HUNTINGTON BEACH : Committee’s Goal Is to Help Asian Visitors

Share

The city’s Conference and Visitors Bureau is forming a Pacific Rim committee and seeking volunteers fluent in Japanese, Korean and Chinese languages to communicate with visitors from Asian countries.

The panel’s mission is to relay information about what to see and do in the area, answer questions such as where to exchange currency, and correspond with travelers before they leave home, said Diane Baker, bureau president.

“It’s long overdue,” Baker said. The number of international visitors to Huntington Beach, she said, has dropped considerably in the past three years.

The outreach program, she said, “will bring more visitors from the Pacific Rim, and they’ll have a good experience while they’re here.”

The bureau will hold its first meeting to discuss the panel and its operation at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Huntington Beach Holiday Inn, 7667 Center Ave.
