Rodney King Pleads Not Guilty to Spousal Abuse Charges

Share

Rodney G. King pleaded not guilty Friday in Alhambra Municipal Court to assault with a car and domestic violence charges stemming from a July 14 incident involving his estranged wife.

King, 30, whose videotaped beating by Los Angeles police officers four years ago shocked the world, is charged with corporal injury to a spouse, assault with a deadly weapon and hit and run.

Witnesses told police a couple--later identified as King and his wife, Crystal--were arguing as he sat in his car and she stood on a sidewalk in Alhambra. According to witnesses, Crystal King tried to reach into the car to get her purse and he drove away, dragging her a short distance before she fell to the ground.

After entering his plea and posting $2,500 bail, King told reporters the incident was not spousal abuse.

“It’s not like the police or law enforcement want to make it look like,” King said.

King is due back in court next month for a pretrial hearing.
