SANTA PAULA : Man Accused of Firing at Home

Santa Paula police took an 18-year-old man into custody after a brief struggle Friday for allegedly shooting at a mobile home.

Police arrested an unarmed Mayer Hernandez as he stood outside his home in the 400 Mobile Estates mobile home park on South Craig Drive.

Officers arriving at the scene about 6:30 a.m. heard shots in Hernandez's mobile home, and then Hernandez allegedly walked outside and discharged a 12-gauge shotgun into the air.

Santa Paula police and Ventura County sheriff's deputies arrested him after he went back in his home, left the shotgun there and walked outside again.

Police found gunshot damage to the mobile home next door and arrested Hernandez on suspicion of discharging a firearm into an inhabited dwelling.

No one was injured.

Police recovered about 20 spent shotgun shells, as well as the weapon.
