*** Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, “Orange Crate Art,” Warner Bros. A double-dose of nostalgia, with Wilson’s unmistakable Beach Boys harmonies applied to “Smile” collaborator Parks’ halcyon, tropical rococo-pop evocations of the pre-O.J., pre-drive-by, even pre-surfing California depicted in citrus-label paintings as the promised land. Completely out of step with the times . . . and completely gorgeous.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to four (excellent).
