A San Bernardino man was in critical condition Saturday after being shot repeatedly after a fight outside an Oxnard residence, authorities said.

John Tuaila, 22, underwent surgery for multiple gunshot wounds and was in stable but critical condition Saturday evening at Ventura County Medical Center, officials said.

Police, who were searching for the gunman, said they do not know the motive in the attack but suspect it may be gang-related.

Police said they received a report about 10:15 p.m. Friday that a man had been shot in a carport in the 4700 block of Cloyne Street. When officers arrived, they found Tuaila in a nearby residence, where a resident was treating his injuries, police said.

Investigators said Tuaila and the suspect had a verbal argument in the carport. The dispute escalated and the suspect pulled out a gun, police said. Police said the gunman fired the weapon several times, striking the victim repeatedly.
