A 21-year-old man was booked into Orange County Jail on Monday on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his roommate in an argument over a girlfriend, police said.

Police say Anthony W. Johnson accused Frank Malcom, 20, of having an affair with Johnson’s girlfriend. The men were arguing in their apartment in the 15800 block of Pasadena Avenue about 11:10 p.m. Sunday.

Johnson then stabbed Malcom in the back and shoulder and fled, Police Sgt. Mike Pettifer said. Johnson was arrested back at the apartment about 2 a.m. Monday and taken to jail, where his bail was set at $250,000.

Malcom was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was in stable condition Monday night, a spokeswoman said. He initially refused to cooperate with police but later told them about the incident, Pettifer said. Johnson told investigators that he acted in self-defense, Pettifer said.
