Hate-Graffiti Vandal Sought in Attack on Senior Center

Police were searching Wednesday for a graffiti vandal who spray-painted “KKK” 17 times on the wall of a senior citizen center in a residential neighborhood.

The graffiti was spotted just after noon on the first floor of the Garden Senior Citizens building, which takes up most of the 400 block of Monterey Drive, Glendale Police Sgt. Ed DeSario said.

It was painted over by the end of the day, DeSario said.

Police spokesman Chahe Keuroghelian said investigators had a suspect but would not provide details.

“There is no reason to believe [the vandal] had any specific target,” Keuroghelian said. He said the senior citizen center, home to dozens of elderly people of diverse heritage, has not reported any previous hate graffiti.

Glendale has been the site of much hate graffiti in the past year, including vandalism at three churches and hate messages scrawled on several Armenian businesses.
