COLLEGE FOOTBALL : COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Perez’s Goal Lifts Chapman to 2-1 Victory

Eddie Perez scored in the 63rd minute to give Chapman a 2-1 victory over UC Santa Cruz in a Division III nonconference men’s soccer game Saturday at Santa Cruz.

Dustin Kemmerer scored in the opening minute of the second half to give the Panthers (15-3) a 1-0 lead. Stephen Thomas then tied it for UC Santa Cruz (14-5) two minutes later. The Panthers outshot UC Santa Cruz, 10-5.

Chapman and UC Santa Cruz, both ranked in the Far West Region, await the NCAA Division III tournament pairings, which will be announced at at 8 p.m. today.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s soccer:

Southern California College 4, Concordia 0--Martin Lippens scored two goals for SCC (10-8-1, 5-3-1), which led, 2-0, at the half. Concordia is 1-16, 0-9.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer:

Westmont 1, Southern California College 0--SCC got 12 saves from Amy Lewis, but lost its final regular-season game to the GSAC’s No. 1 team.

SCC (11-7, 5-3) will play host to a playoff game Wednesday as the conference’s second-place team.

At the USC Invitational swim meet:

Yoshizumi wins backstroke--UC Irvine junior Gwen Yoshizumi won the 100 backstroke (1:00.18) and sophomore Amerie Nordberg was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.26) on the second day of competition at USC.

In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:

Long Beach State 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Brita Schwerm had 17 kills to lead 12th-ranked Long Beach State past Cal State Fullerton, 15-4, 15-6, 15-8. Teammate Lori Price had 33 assists for the 49ers (15-5, 10-3).

Shelly Smith finished with 10 kills for Cal State Fullerton (8-17, 1-11). Melissa Blackler had 22 assists for the Titans.

UC Santa Barbara 3, UC Irvine 0--The Anteaters were no match for UC Santa Barbara (19-4, 12-0), losing three straight, 15-10, 15-6, 15-6.

Popi Edwards had nine kills and seven digs and Anastasia Paveloff had eight kills and 10 digs for UC Irvine (4-16, 1-12).
