Re “Southland Smog Levels Are Lowest in 4 Decades,” Oct. 21:
Optimism can be deceiving. The recent hyperbole about “clean air” leads one to believe that all is well, air-wise, in La-La Land. Not emphasized strongly enough is the fact that the air remains “unhealthy” nearly every day. To congratulate ourselves on progress which circumvents the necessity of gas masks is dubious praise. Let us not rest on our sooty laurels.
