Santa Margarita juniors Michael Murray and Katie Nuanes won individual titles at the Sea View League cross-country finals Friday at Irvine Regional Park.

Murray’s victory also helped the Eagles to their second title in three years, capping an undefeated league dual-meet season.

Murray ran 15 minutes 1 second for the victory; Nuanes ran 17:08 to win.

The Irvine girls again edged El Toro for the team title, 54-59, after winning by only two points last fall. Santa Margarita’s boys scored 54 points, the Sea Kings 68, and El Toro 76.

Murray took command of his race after the one-mile mark, where he shared the lead with Woodbridge senior Ross Venook.

“I just ran whatever pace until the mile, then I started my kick,” said Murray, who finished fifth in the league finals last season.

Venook finished second in 15:12, one second ahead of Eagle senior Dan Whittington. Andrew Gwin of Corona del Mar (15:18) finished fourth and Danny Lee of El Toro (15:20) fifth.

Nuanes used a strong kick to dethrone defending-champion Jessica Corbin of Irvine, who ran 17:17.

Vaquero freshman Erin Zehntner (18:24), El Toro’s Jenny Davis (18:28) and Newport Harbor freshman Alicia McFall (18:32) finished third, fourth and fifth.
