‘Life Coaches’ Sought to Work With Youths

Share

As part of a 2-year-old program aimed at increasing school safety and reducing youth violence, the city is seeking volunteers to be “life coaches” for teen-agers.

The adults act as mentors and role models to help raise teen-agers’ self-esteem, self-respect and self-motivation, program officials said. They are paired with junior high and high school students with whom they attend sports and cultural events and share holidays and meals.

Sponsoring agencies are the Fullerton School District, Fullerton Joint Union High School District, Orange County Department of Education, California Office of Criminal Justice Planning, Fullerton Police and Community Services departments and numerous local nonprofit organizations.
