Todd Peterson did something he has never done before--kick three field goals in an NFL game--and the Seattle Seahawks did something they hadn’t done in five weeks--win.

Peterson’s 32-yard field goal with 1:27 left gave Seattle a 30-28 victory over the New York Giants at the Kingdome to break a four-game Seahawks’ losing streak Sunday.

“Honestly, I was hoping we’d score a touchdown,” Peterson said. “But I knew right away it was good. I’m glad because we needed this win bad, real bad.”

Brad Daluiso missed a 48-yard field-goal attempt for the Giants as time ran out. Daluiso is zero for three from 40-49 yards this year, his only misses of the season. He’s nine for nine in his other field-goal tries, including a 51-yarder.

The Seahawks (3-6) also got second-half field goals of 41 and 23 yards from Peterson, who became Seattle’s kicker this season after John Kasay left as a free agent.

His third field goal came after the Seahawks marched 77 yards in 13 plays to the Giants’ 14. It included an eight-yard run by Mack Strong on a play in which Willie Beamon was called for a 15-yard facemask penalty to give Seattle the ball on the Giants’ 29.

The Giants (3-6) went ahead, 28-27, with 8:15 left when Rodney Hampton scored on a one-yard run, his second touchdown of the day.

Hampton also scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter after Dave Brown passed eight yards to Herschel Walker and 28 yards to Mike Sherrard for touchdowns in the period.

Rick Mirer, who got his starting job back as Seattle’s quarterback when John Friesz suffered a separated shoulder last week in Arizona, was 17 for 31 for 253 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

“It was nice to win this one,” Mirer said. “We’d have a lot more wins if I hadn’t made so many mistakes.”

Brian Blades caught six passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns, and Joey Galloway returned a punt 89 yards for the Seahawks, who had to play the second half without Chris Warren, who re-injured his left ankle at the end of the first half.

Brown was 20 for 41 for 299 yards and two touchdowns.
