Injunction Seeks to Prevent Gang Activity in Neighborhood

Share

A Pasadena Superior Court judge Thursday granted the city a preliminary injunction barring alleged gang members from riding bicycles, carrying beepers and participating in other activities--many of which would otherwise be legal--within a specific neighborhood.

The 35 named defendants, who authorities say terrorize a particularly violent residential area, are also barred from various criminal and criminally related activities within the roughly 20-square-block area of northwest Pasadena, between Washington and Orange Grove boulevards and Fair Oaks and Marengo avenues.

Thursday’s ruling by Pasadena Superior Court Judge J. Michael Byrne replaces a temporary restraining order granted to the city last month.

Four defendants were granted continuances until early December to give them time to consult attorneys. They are still bound by the temporary order, however, which bars them from the same activities outlined in the preliminary injunction.
